Imphal, March 16 2009:
Observing that there is no sign of a CBI inquiry or any visible progress in the work of the inquiry commission instituted by the Government till date though the Chief Minister has given assurance to book and punish the culprits, the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Dr Th Kishan, Y Token and A Rajen has denounced the inaction of the Government on the triple murder case.
According to a press release issued by the JAC, the inquiry commission instituted by the Government was nothing but an eyewash to delude the public.
Having no legal sanctity to book the culprits, the commission has gone into oblivion like a senile toothless tiger, it noted.
On the other hand, under the pretext of the enquiry commission, the FIRs which were lodged suo motto at Ukhrul and Senapati police stations have been left pointless.
"The JAC strongly feels that there is a deep rooted conspiracy from the part of the establishment with a motive to destroy hard evidences for reasons best known to them", it said.
The CBI enquiry promptly announced by the State Government allegedly to shrug off its responsibility was nowhere to be seen till date, the JAC observed while pointing out fallibility inherent in the functioning of CBI.
The "Nithari" murder case was one such precedent in which CBI had stumbled, unable to go ahead with its assigned duty, it observed.
Decrying the act of State legislators plunging themselves into electioneering activities forgetting all about the people's collective demand with regard to the brutal triple murder, the JAC remarked that the lip service, token visits to the families of the victims and bold statements made in front of the media were all gimmicks.
The very act of the State legislators shrugging off their responsibilities implies that the legislators are dancing to the tune of NSCN (IM), it alleged.
Reiterating its demand to punish the culprits under the law of the land as well as to book the suspended Ukhrul DC Pankaj Kumar Pal, the JAC declared that it was all prepared for an agitation of a greater magnitude should the alleged deceitful and callous nature of the Government continue.
On the other hand, responding to the call of the JAC, local clubs and sports organisers carried out protest movements against the brutal murder in different forms during the course of the just concluded Yaoshang festival.
A marathon race carrying anti-terrorism slogan was also organi- sed under the aegis of the JAC.
The marathon race started from Waithou in Thoubal district and terminated at Yumnam Leikai, the birth-place of Y Token, one of the victims of the triple murder.
In all the sports meets organised throughout the length and breadth of all the valley districts during Yaoshang festival, flags were flown at half mast, black badges were also sported by all the participants besides observing two minutes' silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls.
In addition, debate/symposium competitions and candle light vigil were also organised by different clubs.
Meanwhile, the JAC has also conveyed its great gratitude to all the local clubs/sports organisers for their solidarity to the issue.
