Imphal, March 16 2009:
The acts of causing injury and intimidating Congress political workers by opening fire at their residences at a time when electioneering for the Lok Sabha elections is gaining momentum would not be able to affect the scheduled elections.
This was stated by Chief Minister O Ibobi during a closed door meeting held at Congress Bhavan today.
The meeting was attended by MPCC president Gaikhangam, Ministers, MLAs, party office bearers and functionaries of the party's frontal organisations and cells.
Talking to media persons after the meeting, Ibobi refused to disclose details of the meeting saying that it was about the party's strategy for the Lok Sabha elections.
However, he maintained that the acts of attacking and opening fire at the residences of party workers by some armed groups would not be able to affect election activities.
The State Government has also taken up necessary measures to check such evil designs, he added.
