Ukhrul, March 16 2009:
The Ukhrul Students Union (HKL) has appealed to the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) to revoke the directive/order given to the tenants of the Education Department quarters located near Wino Bazar which was ravaged by a devastating fire on March 9. Terming the directive as a mockery and high-handedness on the part of TNL apart from coming out at a wrong timing the HKL executive committee led by its president and secretary while talking to this correspondent informed that on March 12 TNL had directed the tenants of the Government quarters under the supervision of the Zonal Education Officer (ZEO), Education department of Manipur to vacate the within four days time with effect from 12 March.
It is obvious that the TNL is planning to grab the opportunity and take over the Government land which had been donated by the Hunphun/Ukhrul for educational purpose, the student leaders alleged, adding that the directive of the TNL has also come at a time when the tenants as well as the people of the locality are still living under the grip of tension due to the recent inferno at Win Bazar in which three such quarters had been gutted beyond redemption.
The TNL is making all out efforts to grab the land without considering the pulse of the people, the student leaders further alleged.
Saying that the ZEO himself had come and demar- cated the areas on following day of the fire after three of its quarter had been burnt down completely along with the plastics rope and post and the fencing areas of the quarters, the student leaders lamented that later some TNL executive came and destroyed the fence maintaining that the areas will now be made a super market and that all land in the areas will be now brought under the control of TNL.
The move of the TNL has not been able to be digested by the students body and the local people of the areas, the student leaders added.
HKL, while appealing to all the people to join hands in thwarting the plan of the TNL to usurp the Government land has also firmly stated that it will never allow setting up of super market at the cost of the future of student's education and their teachers whatever may be the outcome.
