If you think men outnumber women in Manipur, you need to think twice, or maybe thrice! Consider: 8.29 lakh is the total number of male voters, while a whopping 8.97 lakh is the total number of registered female voters in Manipur according to the 2009 Electoral Roll.
According to source from the State Election Department, out of the total number of registered voters in Manipur 17, 27,240, voters from the outer constituency comprises 9, 02,221 while the figure of voters from the inner constituency is 8,25,019. Out of this, registered men voters in outer constituency comprises 4, 39,279 while the total number of men voters in inner constituency is 3, 90, 445.The total number of women voters in the inner and outer constituencies is 8, 97,523.Out of this, the total number of women voters in outer is 4, 62,949 while women voters in inner totaled 4, 34,574. The total number of service voters in both inner and outer is 8,742. The source said that preparation of photo identity card for 70 percent of the total registered voters (13, 36,689 voters) have been completed.
It further said that the Central Government will sanction 69 companies of Central Para Military Forces for the coming election against the demand of 86 companies of Central Para Military Force by the State Government to the Election Commission of India.
Out of the 2193 polling stations in Manipur, there are 970 polling stations in the inner while 1223 polling stations in the outer which will be manned by 69 companies to ensure the voters exercise their franchise.
Compare: 33.75 crore registered women voters and 36 crore registered male voters at the national level.
