Imphal, August 13, 2012:
Terming the 'mysterious' attack on students from Manipur in particular and North East in general at some places in Pune, Maharashtra, as deregatory and disgusting, the Tangkhul Katamnao Long Imphal (TKLI) has urged the Government of Manipur to contact its counterparts where such incidents took place in order to take up precautionary measures.
Despite the lack of prima facie evidences, it may be invariably assumed that some misguided gangsters from a particular community are behind such perpetration, a statement signed by Ninglum KS, general secretary of TKLI said.
It also noted that the spate of attacks on North Eastern students came in Poona against the backdrop of the Muslim-Bodo clash in Assam and the subsequent protest against Assam riots that had turned violent in Mumbai.
The TKLI also warned the attackers to retract from such lowly conducts driven by communal motives which could evolve into a serious country wide unrest and could be highly self destructive to them.
Recalling the tragic death of NE students like Richard Loitam (Manipur) and Dana Sangma (Meghalaya) in cities like Delhi, Bangalore, et al, the TKLI statement said the NE people have been simmering with anger for racial prejudice and intolerance in the mainland cities for a long period.
