Imphal, October 10 2017:
Demand Committee for creation of Sagang Sub-Division has urged the Chief Minister to open a Sub-Division at Sagang instead of upgrading Samulamlan TD block, Churachandpur district into a subdivision.
Leaders of Demand Committee for creation of Sagang Sub-Division petitioned the CM on hill leaders’ day today.
Addressing a press meet later today at Manipur Press Club, chairman of the demand committee Jamlen Lhungdim said the CM assured them that their demand would be looked into.
He also thanked the CM for hearing them.
Jamlen said that Samulamlan TD block was opened in 1980 and construction of infrastructure began in 1993.However, the TD block has been functioning from Churachandpur district headquarters since its inception for about 30 years .
Villagers in and around Sagang ADC have to travel about 50 km distance till Churachandpur to get just a simple document.
This has caused immense hardship to the people, he said.
People’s grievance will still persist even if the TD block is upgraded to a subdivision, he said while adding that creating a subdivision at Sagang will be very convenient for people of the area.
The Committee also handed a representation to the CM today.
Similar demand was already made to the CM by KRUM president Lalkhomang Serto on Aug 16, he said.
He further exuded strong confidence that the Govt would fulfil the demand and warned that agitation would be launched if the demand is not fulfilled.
