In view of BRTF's failure to settle the killing of Lamjaneng Touthang alias Sumana Begum, the KSO, Ukhrul district have decided not to own any responsibility in the event of any untoward incidents that may arise with respect to the issue, if the problem is not settled within October 15, conveyed a press release issued by general secretary of KSO, Ukhrul .
Lamjeng Touthang was allegedly bludgeoned to death by one Sufian Ahmed on May 9, 2016 at Gamnom BRTF camp under 84 RCC, BRTF, it stated .
Both the victim and the culprit were workers of 84 RCC, BRTF and a case was also registered at Shangshak police station on the same day .
The culprit fled the camp after the incident and his whereabouts cannot be traced till date .
The family of the deceased and the OC of 84 RCC BRTF signed an agreement on October 10, 2016, in which the OC agreed to initiate claim of compensation at the earliest, in order to bring an amicable solution, however, the issue is yet to be settled, it added .
In order to bring about an amicable solution between the two parties, KSO met the authority concerned at Imphal and mediated between the two parties as the people of the area decided to take matter in their own hands against the 84 RCC, BRTF .
The BRTF authority in Imphal, however, denied payment of compensation (ex-gratia) but agreed to give employment to two members of the family of the deceased , as muster roll, so that they can receive monthly salary in lieu of compensation (ex-gratia) .
However the OC of 84 RCC, BRTF failed to execute this agreement again .
The people of the area are very disappointed as a result of the failure on the part of BRTF to settle the issue, it added .
"The KSO also takes strong exception of the BRTF's failure to bring about an amicable solution.
Therefore, the KSO will not own any responsibility in the event of any untoward incident that may arise between the people of the area and the BRTF".
However, in show of solidarity with the people of the area, the KSO will support any action taken up by the people, it stated.
