Book on Irom Sharmila

Minnie Vaid's book, Iron Irom : Two Journeys, was launched by Khasi writer and professor of English Literature, Esther Syiem during the recently concluded 18 degrees festival in Shillong on Saturday, Sept 28 .
Minnie Vaid is a veteran journalist and documentary film-maker, who has written the book based on her meeting and conversation with Chanu Irom Sharmila in the Magistrate's Court in Imphal, as well as interviews with activists, editors, friends and family of Irom Sharmila, said a statement.
"18 Degrees" festival 2013 was an initiative undertaken by the Government of Meghalaya, Department of Arts and Culture, with the objective of promoting Art and Culture in Meghalaya.
It was a unique festival that encompasses different elements of traditional art and culture as well as modern modes of self-expression such as music, poetry, art installations and many more.
The festival started on September 26 and concluded on the Sept 28 at Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong.
The event was powered by Curves and Shades, The Small Art Project and Meghalaya XBHP.
