110-year old Namdingpou Dangmei, perhaps the oldest person in the State, passed away at his Lubanglong village residence in Khoupum valley of Tamenglong district yesterday morning.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, three daughters and many grand children.
Born in 1894, Namdingpou was a pioneering Zeliangrong leader who advocated social change in the community.
Dangmei was also associated with and headed many apex bodies, of Zeliangrong people, like Kabui Samiti (1934) and Zeliangrong Council (1947).Meanwhile, Khoupum Area Village Authority Council has condoled the death of Namdingpou Dangmei and described his death as a great loss not only to the Zeliangrong community but also to the State.
A two minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed soul and prayer service was organized in his honour today.
