Continuing with the demand for the complete revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act from the State, meira paibis of Thanga area staged a sit-in-protest today from 11 am at Bishnupur.
Though a police team led by IG LO-II, A Romenkumar dispersed the agitators, the women folk re-assembled and carried on with their protest after the police left.
The Kumbi Kendra Women's Welfare Assn also staged a protest against the Act at Kumbi bazar today.
The protest was held from 12 noon till 3 pm.
After the sit-in-protest, a rally was taken out from Kumbi bazar till Tera Khongshangbi.
Effigies of Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Chief MinisterOIbobi were set aflame at Kumbi bazar after the rally.
Placards demanding the punishment of the killers of Pastor Jamkholet Khongsai and Th Manorama and decrying the continued imposition of the AFSPA in the State were carried by the rallyists.
At Awang Sekmai volunteers of Sekmai Advance Women Society staged sit-in-protest at Phoutaklou from 9 am till 4 pm to demand removal of AFSPA and punishment of Th Manorama's killers.
Similar protest was staged at Khongjom Patpal Keithel under the aegis of Patpal Meira Paibi Nupi Lup whose member also consigned to flames effigies of the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil and local MLA Dr M Nara Singh at the end of the dharna.
