Imphal, September 21:
An acute shortage of kerosene has seized Ukhrul district thanks to the total failure of the district's Food and Civil Supplies authority to streamline its distribution system.
According to a highly placed source, the monthly allocation of SK Oil for Ukhrul District is only 13 tankers i.e 130 kilolitres which is equivalent to 1,30,000 litres.
Despite the acute shortage gripping the district, the Ukhrul FCS Department has been issuing permits to unauthorized agencies.
This has led to the non availability of the fuel at the authorized agents while the same is available in the black market at exorbitant rate.
A litre of K-oil is sold for anything between Rsl6 to Rs 18 against the subsidized Govt rate of Rs 11 per litre in the black market.
So far, for the month of September, only 2 tankers i.e, 20,000 litres of K oil have delivered the fuel for the district while 11 are yet 'to report', added the source.
And as per the latest Govt Gazettee, the validity of the SK Oil agency had already expired on June 30 this year last and till date no fresh appointments have been effected, informed the source.
