Imphal, July 25 2016:
The Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) has expressed strong concern and disappointment over the manner in which news reporters and cameramen who were covering a protest at RIMS, were verbally assaulted by some members of 'JAC against the attempt to murder of Dr Gyaneswor' who were staging a protest in connection with the alleged attack on Dr Gyaneswor, an MBBS internee hailing from Nambol, at RIMS hospital.
In a statement, EGM secretary general said some people among the agitators accused the media persons covering the incident of being corrupt and unethical.
They shouted that the news being covered would not be carried and that they were filming, collecting news just for the sake of it and that they carried news only if paid.
This has hurt the sentiments of those newsmen who covered the protest incident braving the rain, the EGM said while appealing to all organizations concerned to cooperate with the journalists who are performing their duties under trying conditions.
The EGM further urged all concerned to approach the Guild if somebody has any complaints against any journalists or media houses related to EGM, but to avoid generalizing and insulting in public.
