Four pulled up for document forgery

Imphal, July 25 2016:
Four persons have been arrested by police for alleged selling of bank passbooks which were opened through fraudulent means.
The four arrested persons have been identified as Yumlembam Chinglen alias Bombom s/o Y Ningthem of Heiyel Mayai Leikai, Uchiwa, Soram Sonia (23) d/o S Loken of Haoreibi Makha Leikai, Md Fakruddin Shah, s/o Haji Islamuddin of Minuthong Hatta Mana Ingkhol and Pramod Kumar Prasad, s/o Shankar Prasad of Kuisha Kurd Mahawar, Bihar.
Officials of SBI, Imphal Branch reported suspicious activities of the gang to police after which Yumlembam Chinglen and Soram Sonia were arrested.
Upon investigation, name of their three associates were revealed.
Though Md Fakruddin Shah and Pramod Kumar Prasad have been arrested, one Hodam Prasanta (35) s/o (L) Iboton of Wangoi Hodam Leikai is at large, said Imphal West district SP AK Jhaljit.
Chinglen and Sonia have been opening numerous bank accounts by using forged Aadhar Card and other documents for several years.
Through Prasanta, the duo would sell the bank passbooks for Rs 4 to 5 thousand each.
Under SBI's Welcome Kids' Bank, an individual can open a bank account and take the ATM and passbook on the spot.
Taking the advantage of the facility, the duo opened numerous bank accounts, informed SP Jhaljit.
Through this case, the police were able to know that such cyber crime is committed by people of the State in close association with people residing in Delhi, Bangalore, Bihar and other States, he added.
The fake ATM cards and passbooks were used to deposit and transfer money from one account to another account.
Forged Aadhar Cards used by Chinglen and Sonia were made in Uttara Studio, Thangal Keithel where Pramod Kumar Prasad used to work.
The studio is owned by Md Fakruddin Shah.
SP Jhaljit said that a case has been registered and necessary steps to nab Prasanta have been taken up.
