Imphal, July 25 2016:
The Socialist Students' Union Manipur
(SSUM) has urged the authority concerned to introduce biometric
attendance registration system for Government school teachers.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today,
SSUM publicity secretary Naorem Tanoranjan said that the
student community of the State would be compelled to launch
to different kinds of agitation if the Government fails to
introduce biometric attendance registration for Government
school teachers by August 10.
To identify the main factors responsible for the degenera-
tion of Government schools in the State, SSUM carried out
an inspection drive.
Most of the Government schools were found lacking in
different aspects such as shortage of teachers, absence of well-
equipped library, shortage of computer sets, absence of science
laboratories etc.
Moreover, many Principals/Headmasters were not super-
vising their subordinate teachers properly while a larger
number of teachers were found quite derelict and irregular,
Tanoranjan said.
In terms of physical infrastructure, most Government
schools lack proper toilet facilities and they do not have
compound fences.
In the HSLC Exam 2016 conducted by the Board of Sec-
ondary Education Manipur, out of 323 Government schools,
110 schools drew blank.
There is also a need to rationalize the number of teachers
between schools which have students and schools which have
very few or no students, Tanoranjan said.
The Government should also enact a legislation which
would make it mandatory for all Government school teachers
to send their children to Government schools which is not the
case at the moment, he added.
