Imphal, April 19 2020:
A review meeting on the precautionary and preventive measures taken up against COVID-19 in Kamjong district was held yesterday at the district headquarters.
The meeting attended by district administration officials and DLOs of relevant departments was presided by Phungyar AC MLA K Leishiyo.
Taking note of the crucial role of police in combating COVID-19, the meeting discussed about the existing situation of Kamjong district police.
Even though Kamjong police station covers 45 villages, it has only one Gypsy against 30 armed personnel posted at the station.
Kasom police station covers 46 villages and it has one Gypsy and one Tata Xenon against 30 unarmed personnel.
Phungyar police station covers 38 villages and it has only one Gypsy against 30 unarmed personnel.
There is no Officer-in-charge at Phungyar police station, the meeting noted before deciding to take up the matter of Kamjong district police's pathetic infrastructure at the level of the Chief Minister.
As discussed at the meeting, Kamjong CHC and Kasom PHC have ambulances for transporting pregnant women but PHC Phungyar has no ambulance.
Moreover, there is no acute life saving ambulance in the entire Kamjong district.
The Chief Minister allotted one acute life saving ambulance to Kamjong district last year but it has 'disappeared'.
As such, the meeting mulled about approaching the Chief Minister to provide normal ambulances as well as acute life saving ambulances at the earliest.
The review meeting also deliberated on shortage of doctors and medical staff at Kamjong CHC, Kasom PHC and Phungyar PHC.
For Kamjong district, screening for COVID-19 is done at K Somrei and Litan.
Meanwhile, Kamjong CHC, Kasom PHC and Phungyar PHC have been activated as flu clinics.
The initiative taken up by the Government to open quarantine centres at Kamjong, Kasom and Phungyar too figured at the review meeting.
Acute shortage of water currently faced by most villages of the district was another agenda of the meeting.
The meeting further discussed about providing rice to people through Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS) as rice provided under NFSA and PMKGAY are too little as compared to daily requirements.
The review meeting also discussed about asking the State Government to release water currently held by Mapithel Dam if the same water should not be used for any purpose at the moment so that paddy cultivation can be done.
