Porompat dairy still supply milk in State

Amidst the ongoing lockdown which has been extended till May 3, Manipur Milk Producers' Co-operative Union Ltd, Porompat is still functioning today to ensure that there is no shortage of milk and dairy products in the State.
Though the company produces 7,000 litres of milk daily on average, the amount is not enough to suffice the demand for milk in the State.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, one of the officials of the company stated that dairy farmers from different districts vend the milk they produced to the Porompat dairy for marketing.
The amount of milk provided to the company by different dairy farmers for marketing on average are Kangpokpi (500 litres); Thanga (1,000 litres); Langmeidong (700 litres); Waheng Khunou (500 litres); Hiyangthang (500 litres); Khundrakpam in Sawombung (500 litres) and Leimapokpam (500 litres).
Saying that the milk is then packaged to the dairy for sell at Imphal, Churachandpur, Leimakhong and Koirengei BSF among others, the official added that different milk vendors and agents also bought milk from them for sell to the general public.
The State Government authorised the dairy farmers to pursue their business, he said adding that each packet containing half a litre of milk, which is widely known in the State as 'Chumthang', is being sold at the rate of Rs 24 He also said that different milk products other than the packaged milk are also available at the Porompat dairy, which has 35 staff.
Continuing that 'Chumthang' is popular among the State denizens for being a source of vitamin A and C which help in strengthening the bone and immune system of one's body, he opined that opening dairy in hill districts will help in producing more milk and its products in the State.
