PHCs at Senapati short of medical staff

Senapati, April 19 2020:
Many Primary Health Centres at Senapati district are facing a shortage of medical staff at present.
Dr Gairallu Kamei, MO in charge at Mao's screening point stated that the medical team at Mao are facing lack of manpower including doctors, nurses and sweepers at quarantine centre, JNV, Mao.
The doctors at the screening point are reportedly working on 4 shifts to provide 24x7 medical services since March 3 last, she said.
Dr Athihe Vincent, Nodal Officer of quarantine facility at JNV, Mao stated that there are 43 persons quarantined at the centre at present.
Incoming commuters from other States are increasing every now and then, the doctor stated adding he faces immense difficulties in managing the facility as he is the only staff posted for the quarantine centre at Mao.
People who are on quarantine at the centre get sick very often as they are not habituated to cold weather and attending to all their demand is a mammoth task, he said and sought the attention of the State Government to arrange additional manpower including doctors, nurses and Grade IV employees at the centre.
The doctor also suggested all concerned to arrange breakfast and blankets for the inmates to keep them healthy at the centre.
Medical staff at PHC, Tadubi also complaint that they are having a shortage of medical staff at the centre.
Three Grade IV employees reportedly got retired this year and with no chowkidar, sweeper, ambulance and lack of doctors and nurses, it is hard operating a quarantine centre, the staff said and lamented that no taxis are also willing to transport sick people to Imphal when their sickness becomes serious.
Meanwhile, Inspector Jonah Raphuba Chawang, Officer in charge, Mao Police Station stated that any vehicle entering the State are detained at the entry point for screening.
Medical staff and Mao police are reportedly on duty 24x7 by making all incoming commuters enter the screening centre and no one is left out from screening at the entry point of Mao.
All incoming passengers are advised either to go for quarantine or go back at the entry point, the OC stated adding that checking of all goods continues at the main gate, Mao.
The Mao police reportedly opened all goods that are ferried in a truck and at the same check whether any vehicles help infiltrate non locals into the State.
