Imphal, March 12 2015:
Attempt by members of All Manipur College Teachers' Association (AMCTA) who have been on cease work strike since the past many days to stage a protest rally was stopped by the police today.
The protest rally which was participated by 60 teachers was flagged off from the gate of Manipur College.
Minutes after the rally was flagged off, police swung into action and put up a barricade.
Even as the agitating teachers explained that they would march silently up to the Chief Minister's bungalow to submit a memorandum, the police team refused to remove the barricade.
Speaking to media persons at Chingamakhong, AMCTA general secretary Ch Rajen said that they have been undertaking different forms of democratic agitation since November 26 last year.
The teachers switched to cease work strike since January 18 .

The teachers have not been demanding any additional benefits.
They have been demanding rectification of the flawed system so that higher education in Manipur can be pushed to a higher trajectory.
AMCTA's first demand is immediate release of a fresh notification/OM considering local conditions with respect to recruitment, Career Advancement Scheme and other service matters.
Appointment of regular Principals for all Government colleges and annulment of the appointment order of three regular Principals issued on November 14 are some other demands of AMCTA.
Removal of Commissioner (Higher Education) P Vaiphei from Higher Education Department is another demand of the association, Rajen said.
Another demand is, immediate release of pending due allowances such as SCA, TA etc entitled to college teachers and equivalent cadres by correcting ROP cadres.
College teachers' are now puzzled by the Government's silence and inaction to all these demands despite months of agitation, he said.
Nonetheless, AMCTA would carry on their agitation until all the demands are fulfilled, he added.
