CorCom pledges to carry on the fight

Imphal, July 07 2017: While greeting all the people of Manipur (Kangleipak) on the occasion of their 6th foundation day (July 8), the CorCom has pledged to carry on the liberation struggle until the sovereignty of Manipur is restored .

A statement issued by CorCom convenor Kh Pambei reminded that many colonised Nations were granted independence after the end of the Second World War .

In the 21st century, the United Nations initiated a series of decolonisation process across the world.

In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the "Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples", the 65th session of the UN General Assembly held on December 10, 2010 declared 2011-2020 as the "Third International Decade for the Eradication of Colonialism" .

However, contrary to all these initiatives of the UN, India which had just won freedom from the British imperialist, started colonising its small neighbours particularly Kashmir and WESEA including Manipur .

Apart from subjugating the people of these regions as colonised people, India has been unleashing all kinds of repressive measures by sending its military forces, Pambei alleged .

While India has been consistently scheming to swallow all the people of WESEA who are culturally and genealogically quite different from India, people of the region have indomitable spirit to protect their identity as well as their right to self-determination, and it resulted in a non-negotiable confrontation, it said .

The main strategy of the Government of India is unleashing all kinds of repressive measures to terrify and subdue the masses.

In terms of education and culture too, New Delhi has been following a policy of teaching only the history, culture and traditions of India so that people of the region subscribe to the notion that they are Indians.

The initiative toward "One education, one Nation' is a testimony of this policy .

India is intent on destroying the spirit of Manipuri people who fought valiantly against the mighty British empire even after knowing that they had no chance of winning the imperial forces.

This indomitable spirit is allergic to India and they have been following different strategies to suppress this spirit .

One such successful strategy is dividing the people of Manipur, destroying all productive economic bases and transforming the State into a captive market for the mega corporate companies of India.

Government of India has been working to exploit all the resources of Manipur including human resources and this is testified by such projects as trans-Asian highway, mega railway project and oil exploration and extraction .

Coupled with this policy, the incessant influx of outsiders from India would expedite racial assimilation programme of the Government of India and all the indigenous communities of Manipur would sink into the vast ocean of Indian people, it cautioned.

Any thought to surrender to the Government of India or secure a compromised settlement rather than waging a collective war of liberation is nothing but loss of one's vision, CorCom asserted .

The strength of the revolutionary movement lies in the hills-valley unity.

It is crucial to resolve all the differences and work out a common path and pave the way for free and dignified life .

Not only common people, some academicians too have been saying that the indigenous people of Manipur can be saved only through certain Article/Schedule of the Constitution of India which has been working to exterminate all the indigenous communities and erase their glorious history.

But it is a misplaced notion, CorCom remarked .

It further asserted that the indigenous people of the land can protect their identities and take forward their civilization only when Manipur is independent .

Pledging that CorCom would carry on its struggle towards this end, it sought support and encouragement from the masses.
