Key CSOs gear up for unity rally

Joint Com-mittee on People's Movement for Common Future of Manipur is set to organize a mass really cum meeting in Imphal to show the unity of people of different communities on February 6.Committee convenor Elangbam Johnson said that the joint committee was constituted by United Committee Manipur (UCM), All Mani-pur United Clubs Organi- zation (AMUCO) and Committee of Civil Societies, Kangleipak (CCSK).
He said that the committee had already organised different awareness meetings and campaigns on unity at different parts of the State.
He also said Manipur has a recorded history of 2000 years and people of different communities have been residing together harmoniously since time immemorial.
However, it is unfortunate that some sorts of misunderstanding have arisen among these people due to external instigation.
He said that some divisive forces have been constantly playing divide and rule in the State.
Johnson said, "We must not forget that we are one and no power can separate us" .
He said that the rally cum meeting was fixed after holding two rounds of meeting with different community leaders.
The main objective of holding the rally is to show to the world that no power can disunite the people of Manipur, he said.
Saying that eight sub-committees have been formed in this regard, Johnson said that these committees would start working from today onwards.
Co-convener of the joint committee, Ph Deban said that the rally has been plan-ned to show solidarity against the external forces which are trying to disintegrate the State.
He also urged the public to take part in the rally for the common future and future generation of the State.
He also appealed to all the political parties, community leaders, religious leaders and others to join the rally.
CCSK president Chingkheinganbi said that people would raise voice against divisive forces at the rally.
