Imphal, January 05 2016:
A team of State BJP leaders led by its president Th Chaoba today inspected the damages caused by the quake that jolted the State yesterday.
The BJP team inspected Khwairamband Keithel, Bishnupur market shed and a shopping complex at Nambol.
Seeing the crumbled building of Khwairamband Keithel shed No 2 and 3, Th Chaoba assured to pursue the authority concerned to construct new buildings in place of the old ones.
He also expressed empathy to the vendors who, fearing to venture under the buildings in the wake of the tremor, sold their items by the roadside.
Cracks have been developed at various parts of Bishnupur bazar shed apart from various pillars being crumbled.
Vendors were seen selling their items at the roadside as their scare led them to evacuate the building.
The team led by Th Chaoba also inspected the Golden Shopping Complex at Nambol bazar, which was inaugurated just two months back.
Crack has been found developing on the walls and other parts of the building.
The team also assessed the condition of Bethel English school.
Addressing media persons later at the BJP office located at Nityapat Chuthek, Manipur BJP president Th Chaoba said that the condition of Ima Keithel after the earthquake is shocking.
He said that the buildings got damaged in the quake as quality was compromised by the company during construction.
The BJP president demanded a CBI probe over the crumbling of parts of the Khwairamband Keithel due to the quake when other taller buildings nearby could withstand the quake.
Chaoba further urged the State Govt to immediately cease the construction works undertaken by the company concerned and ban the activities of the company in the State.
As there is high possibility of more disastrous outcome in the event of similar calamity, new buildings should be constructed after demolishing the existing Khwairamband Keithel buildings, Chaoba demanded.
He also urged the State Govt to construct new market sheds at Bishnupur bazar.
Failing to pay heed to the demands would certainly evoke public agitation.
The BJP president also strongly demanded construction of new building for Golden Shopping Complex at Nambol bazar.
Meanwhile, the Kharam Pallen Village Authority claimed in a statement that the wall of Kharam Pallen UJB School collapsed due to the earthquake yesterday.
The VA urged the authority concerned to do the needful before the beginning of the new academic session.
At the same time, the BJP Wangkhem Mandal pointed out that the tremor that shook the State yesterday left Yairipok bazar in a dilapidated condition due to lack of quality control during construction.
In a statement, the BJP Wangkhem Mandal has urged the authority concerned to arrange temporary shed for the vendors at the earliest.
