Imphal, November 29:
Following the refusal of Railways authority to transport the State's rice quota from Guwahati to Silchar and Dimapur for further transportation to Manipur, the State Government has written to the Managing Director and Chairman of the Food Corporation of India to review the stand of the Railway authority.
An official source informed The Sangai Express that State Government had written to FCI about the refusal of Railways to transport the due quantity of the State's food grain quota from Guwahati to the FCI godowns of Dimapur and Silchar from where Manipur receives its share.
It also appealed for immediate actions to ensure transportation of food grains to the FCI godowns of Silchar and Dimapur.
Reminding that it is lean season for Manipur, it also mentioned of the possible adverse impacts on markets due to depleted stock of food grains in FCI godown.
It also asked the FCI officials to make the godowns operational by ensuring food grain stock of not less than 75 percent of the godown capacity by December 3.The intimation also mentioned of the unwillingness of the Railway authorities at Guwahati to allow food grain transportation to Jiribam terminal on grounds of operational constraints.
At present, the FCI godown at Imphal has food grain stock of only 4500 metric tonnes against its capacity of 14,000 metric tonnes while the 2500 metric tonnes capacity FCI godown at Jiribam has become non-functional and has been closed.
The copies of the written intimation sent to FCI authority were also sent to FCI regional managers of Guwahati, Shillong and Dimapur.
