Imphal, November 29:
Taking strong exception to the failure of the State Cabinet to approve upgradation of Jiribam sub-division to a full fledged district even after the Delimitation Commission of India had approved upgradation of the sub-division, the people of the sub-division have started exerting strong pressure on Th Debendra to resign from the Council of Ministers.
Besides the ongoing blockade imposed along NH-53 against the failure of the State Government to upgrade the sub-division, representatives of several civil organisations came to the official quarters of Minister Th Debendra at Babupara today and reportedly exerted strong pressure to resign from the SPF Ministry.
Debendra assured the enraged people that he agrees with the demand of the people and would act according to their wish.
He pacified the representatives saying that he would take a clear decision on the issue after the arrival of Chief Minister O Ibobi from Delhi tomorrow.
However, it is still unclear whether Th Debendra would resign from the SPF Ministry in accordance to the demand of the people.
Media persons were denied permission to meet the Minister.
Meanwhile the Jiribam Dsitrict Demand Committee has expressed its strong disaproval over the statement given by the Editor of Manipur Mail during the news analysis on AIR during the 7.30 news broadcast today.
In a statement, the Committee said that the Editor's derisive reaction to the ultimatum of the Committee that it would be forced to go to Assam was provocative.
If the Cabinet fails to announce the upgradation of Jiribam to a full fledged revenue district by December 3 then a 36 hour Statewide general strike will be launched from 6 pm of December 4, said the Committee.
Apart from this all poll related works will be stopped at Jiribam, it said.
