Imphal, January 30, 2012:
Accusing the ERO/DC of Tamenglong and some other staff for inclusion of 'illegitimate' voters that resulted in disruption of poll at 54/8 Nungba AC on January 28, the Chakanlong (Charoichagotlong) Peidai, a customary Village Court of Chakanlong in Tamenglong district has resolved that no re-poll be conducted unless the error is corrected.
Strongly expressing disapproval of the 'injustice'on the part of the ERO, Tamenglong, the Chairman of Chakanlong (Charoichagotlong) Peidai, Khusinpou Kamei in a statement, asserted that the electoral revision authority of Tamenglong has blatantly ignored umpteen pleas made by the Village Court for deletion of illegitimate voters/outsiders from the electoral lists with regard to the village.Polling was disrupted and stopped due to public agitation against inclusion of 'illegitimate' electors in respect of polling station 54/8 (Nungba AC), it stated.
On many occasions, the Village Court had requested the authority concerned for deletion of illegitimate voters from the electoral lists of Chakanlong village.
Taking up the complaints, the Joint CEO of the State had directed the DEO/DC Tamenglong (vide No 2/ELECT-1/SSR-2012 dated 09/12/2011) to take up appropriate action on the complaint against the concerned BLO for monopoly of electoral roll, it stated.
The State Government has been misled by the DEO/DC Tamenglong in connivance with subordinate election officer (SDO Nungba), and some politically motivated individuals, it added.
The delay in the process compounded with monopoly, political whims and vested interest being entertained have brought about the peace of peace in the area that may invitethe situation to escalate from bad to worse, it asserted.
