Imphal, January 30, 2012:
The proscribed Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) has claimed responsibility for the ambush laid on Indian Army at a spot in between Kharou and Narum villages under Tengnoupal sub-division of Chandel district in the evening of January 28. In a statement, Chief of Department of Publicity of the outfit Taohangsu Heiremcha informed that sophisticated weapons and bombs have been used in the attack carried out by cadres of its armed wing, PLA on the Indian Army personnel who were returning from Saibol after election duty.
More than six Army personnel including an officer suffered casualty.
But the Indian Army hid the extent of the casualty from the people, Heiremcha contended, adding that the recent spate of successful attacks launched against the Indian Army are testimony of the fact that armed revolutionary movement in Manipur is still active and is gaining in strength.
In another press note, RPF/PLA has clarified that Dinesh Singh s/o Kulla Singh and M Tomba Singh s/o late M Jotin Singh, whom the troops of 46 AR under the aegis of Red Shield Division claimed to have arrested from Tuibong area on January 27 in a PIB (Defence) statement on January 28, have not connection with RPF nor with its armed wing PLA in any way.
The statement of PIB (Defence) is false and baseless, Chief of Department of Publicity, RPF Taohangsu Heiremcha asserted in a statement, adding that it is the old habit of the Indian Army to arrest innocent youths in the name of counter insurgency and subject them to inhuman torture.
Such conduct of Indian Army would only bring more unrest in the society, the statement added.
