Imphal, January 27, 2012:
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate in Moirang Assembly Constituency P Sharatchandra has accused Indian National Congress nominee M Prithiviraj of misusing security escort personnel in intimidating workers of rival candidates.
speaking to newspersons at his Moirang residence, Sharatchandra also contended that inspite of the election campaign period ending at 3 pm of January 26, MLA Prithiviraj allegedly continued to campaign along with security escort personnel and other State police force.
Even though the code of conduct violation was conveyed to general observer assigned by the ECI for Moirang AC there had been no positive response by the authority concerned, said the NCP candidate who also claimed that a previous incident of Congress workers distributing blankets and shawls in the AC is also being ignored as there is no punitive action initiated against the Congress workers.Sharatchandra also expressed strong resentment that complaints against some Moirang police station personnel of indulging in election-related activities and subsequent appeal that such elements be shifted out of the assembly constituency also remains unanswered.
He further clarified that an INC worker apprehended by NCP workers from a meeting venue at Kwakta on January 25 while video tapping the meeting proceeding was taken away by a team of Bishnupur district police commandos who came in a Gypsy marked CDO BPR-7 and the said individual was never detained at the Kwakta residence of NCP leader and former Minister Heshamuddin as had been reported in section of the media.
Contrary to the report the INC nominee fired some rounds from his licensed (apparently) gun to disturb the meeting, he added.
