2 CRPF men killed, 1 injured in UNLF ambush

Kongkan, January 27, 2012:
At least 2 CRPF jawans were killed while another sustained injuries in an ambush laid by suspected UNLF militants near Kongkan village Ukhrul District at around 12:30pm Thursday.
The CRPF personnel numbering about 30 were headed for Kongkan 43/43 polling station along with 3 polling Officers who were on their way from Kamjong Sub-Division Head-quarter when the attack took place close to the village Kongkan.
The team included a peon and 2 Village Defence Force (VDF) personnel.
According to the Chassad Police, the 30 CRPF personnel were moving on foot with two Shaktiman trucks carrying the Polling Officers and materials for Kongkan Polling stations which were merged with Aishi polling station.
The deceased according to the source were identified as GD.

Soon after the incident the Police and the troops of the 12 Assam Riffles rushed to the spot.
However, the armed attackers, after exchanging fire with the CRPF jawans for about 10 minutes, made good their escape into the dense jungle, the source said.
Police said, the Assam Rifles have been detailed for security along Indo-Myanmar border which is a sensitive zone.
Sources said that the incident occurred due to the lapses in security measures.
