State observes 63rd Republic Day amidst boycott by UGs

Imphal, January 27, 2012:
As observed in the whole country, the Manipur government also observed the 63rd Republic Day of India commemorating transformation of India into a Soveriegn Democratic Republic country in 1950. However public participation was very low in the state as a result of the boycott and general strike called by CorCom (a united body of seven UG groups of Manipur) along with several other UG groups of Manipur and the NE India.
The state function was held inside the Kangla under tight security with Governor of Manipur Gurbachan Jagat as Chief Guest.
After reaching at the saluting base in Kangla, Governor Gurbachan Jagat inspect the Guard of Honour by a contingent of 7 IRB under the command of Assistant Commandant of 1st MR Hijam Gyaneshwar (MPS).
After inspecting the Guard of Honour, the Governor hoisted the tricolour as band party of MR played the National Anthem.
Later, police medals were conferred to dutiful police personnel.
Chief Head Warder of Sajiwa Central Jail A Ibotombi, Asst Jailor N Hemanta andWarder Th Nabakumar were conferred the Correctional Service Medals.
Firemen Kh Surchandra of the Manipur Fire Service was honoured with the Gallantry Medal for Meritorious Service.
SI S Ibotombi and Rifleman Ajay Prakash were awarded Police Medal for Gallantry.
SP CCpur K Radhashyam (IPS) was conferred the President Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
