Imphal, July 07 2017: Many BPL card holders who have been left out of the Socio Economic Caste Census (SECC) 2011 have been denied the benefit of Prime Minister Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) under which LPG connection is given free of cost .

PMUY was launched with the primary objective of making LPG accessible to all economically backward households particularly women who depend on firewood for cooking .

The total number of households covered by PMUY based on SECC 2011 is 2.43 lakh .

Meanwhile, there are reports of many women holding BPL cards but not included in the SECC 2011 approaching LPG distributors seeking LPG connection under PMUY .

The number of BPL households have increased considerably since SECC 2011.They too have been denied the benefits of PMUY apart from those households which were left out of SECC 2011 .

In addition to budgetary support of Rs 1600, gas stove and LPG refill can be obtained on loan under the scheme .

Notably, PMUY is one of the works listed in the 100 days programme of the BJP-led coalition Government .

According to IOC's Imphal Chief Divisional Retail Sales Manager Sinam Ibungoton, 7292 eligible households out of 2.43 lakh households have submitted their KYC forms for LPG connection under PMUY .

Out of the 7292 applicants who have submitted KYC forms, 4103 applicants have been given LPG connections till yesterday.

District-wise figures are Bishnupur 647 have been given LPG connections out of 845 who have submitted KYC forms, Chandel 229 (out of 375), Churachandpur 658 (out of 1041), Imphal West 183 (out of 413), Senapati 630 (out of 1389), Tamenglong 129 (out of 261), Thoubal 239 (out of 433), Ukhrul 408 (out of 512), Imphal East 173 (out of 287), Tengnoupal 251 (out of 582), Kangpokpi 130 (out of 333), Noney 71 (out of 148), Kakching 345 (out of 397), Kamjong 72 (out of 183) and Jiribam one (out of 93) .

Even though women belonging to BPL families but left out of SECC 2011 approached LPG distributors seeking LPG connection under PMUY and they were allowed to submit Ujjwala KYC forms, there is no instruction from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to give them LPG connection under the same scheme .

These applications have to wait for approval from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas but there is no guarantee that the Ministry would give its approval, sources informed.

On the other hand, there seems to be certain misunderstanding between LPG distributors and applicants seeking LPG connection under PMUY.

As such, there is a need for distributors and the general public to sort out all the misunderstandings, Ibungoton said .

Women seeking LPG connection under PMUY must furnish copies of Aadhar card, Aadhar cards of all household members, bank passbook, three copies of passport-size photograph, domicile certificate and BPL card.
