Imphal, May 15:
Normal life in the whole of Chandel district was disrupted today following the blockade of vehicular passenger service in the district after various transporters associations of Imphal-Moreh road protested against the illegal tax demand on vehicles plying on this road.
The passengers services were also blocked beyond Sugunu along the Mayai Lambi road.
Already these vehicles have not been crossing Kakching Lamkhai on the Imphal Moreh road since Monday last.
Meanwhile the state government in view of the grievances of the people for whom these routes are their lifelines, provided passenger buses escorted by IRB from Imphal to Moreh and Moreh to Imphal since yesterday.
According to an official source, four buses including two of the IRB, stranded at Moreh have been escorted back to Imphal with IRB escorts.
Altogether 150 persons were escorted back in the buses.
In the meantime, the All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers Union and the Indo Burma Sugunu Road Drivers Association while expressing sympathy for the public affected by the blockade stated that the move has been taken up after immense pressure to the drivers and the owners of the passenger vehicles plying on the road by the underground outfit NSCN (IM).
