The legal binding of the Upendra Judicial Commission, inquiring into the arrest and death of Thingujam Dhirendra Singh has been questioned by the authorities of the Assam Rifles.
They have raised doubts that the state government can constitute commission of inquiry against any armed forces of the Union.
The secretary, ministry of defence, IG, Assam Rifles (N), Commander, 9 Sector AR, Commandant, 7 AR have jointly filed petition before the Guwahati High Court, Imphal bench challenging such an enquiry.
The case is listed tomorrow as motion item.
It may be mentioned that some security personnel alleged to the personnel of the 7th AR picked up Thingujam Dhirendra Singh of Singjamei Makha Naorem Leikai between the night of April 5 and April 6 last from his residence and killed him at 9.30 am on April 6 last.
On April 9, constituting Upendra Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the arrest and death of Thingujam Dhirendra Singh.
The inquiry has to be completed and its report submitted within 2 months.
The commission secretary issued a notice on April 26, inviting affidavits from the intending parties and individuals giving evidences to the issue.
The last date for submission of the affidavits was fixed on May 10 last.
