Imphal, October 27 2014:
The organisers of the dice board game today clarified that the brawl which resulted in infliction of bullet injuries on two persons on Saturday night at Kakwa was not their fault.
Addressing reporters today at Manipur Press Club, one Laishram Somokanta (31) of Kakwa Liwa Road Huidrom Leikai said that he along with three youths organised a dice board game at Kakwa Keithel Saturday night.
Three/four other groups also organised the games nearby.
A gambler identified as Huidrom Shanti of Kakwa Huidrom Leikai started a commotion after he lost some money in the game.
Shanti along with his sons and others gathered at the site and started beating him (Somokanta) up, he said.
Somokanta also added that Rs 50,000 which he kept in his pocket was missing after the melee and his three other friends had also fled from the site.
Speaking at the press meet, Somokanta's relative, Laishram Farin (27) of Kakwa Liwa Road Oinam Leikai said he came across the brawl while he was out to buy medicines for his ailing father in a Honda Civic car.
He said that his plead to elders and womenfolk present at the site to stop the brawl proved futile.
In his efforts to save Somokanta, he returned home and took his uncle Laishram Haridas to the spot.
Unfortunately, the mob started dismantling his car before he could say anything, he said.
Besides, the mob violently tried to snatch the licensed pistol of his uncle, Haridas.
He said Huidrom Kanta and Huidrom Trilokchand could have been injured when the mob pulled the trigger.
The pistol has been placed under police custody.
Besides, his uncle Haridas has been hospitalised at Shija Hospital after the mob thrashed him, Farin said.
Rs 20,000 and two jewellery items which were in the possession of Haridas also went missing.
Saying that a report has already been filed at Singjamei PS in this connection, Somokanta demanded fitting action against the persons involved in the incident.
He also refuted the reports of the incident which appeared in newspapers.
