Kangpokpi, October 27 2014:
Amidst intense opposition from the Kuki CSOs the Kuki Tribal Union (KTU) today affirmed to continue to tax the people to those handed with the circular.
The KTU in charged identified as Thangboi flatly denied in a press statement that the statement of the Kuki CSOs that NSCN (GPRN) pressured the KTU to levy tax among the Kuki is baseless.
Thangboi further stated that it is the KTU feeling the need of tax was levied on the civilians while adding that the said exercise is due to Kuki fiction groups continue to carry out unprecedented taxation among the civilians, for which the KTU would also continue to tax the people to those handed with the circular.
Clearing the air of confusion among the public, if anyone those handed with the circular are not in position to pay the tax can directly contact the KTU in-charge for further clarification, stated the KTU official.
It may be recalled that the Kuki civil society organization including Kuki Inpi Sadar hills and its frontal organizations, Sadar Hills Women Union, KSU-Sadar Hills and Area wise Kuki Chief's Association within Sadar Hills collectively and unanimously reaffirmed its stand in a General Body Meeting held at Kangpokpi not to endorse and give any type of taxes or donations to the GPRN/NSCN/KTU.
The KTU in-charge Thangboi also lashed out on the Kuki CSOs, for trying to communalize the issue and bringing misunderstanding among the two races of Kuki and the Naga.
The Sadar Hills Kuki CSOs had earlier mentioned that, "The agenda of collecting taxes or any type of donation in any Kuki inhabited areas within Sadar Hills implicates communal attitude of the GRPN/NSCN" .
However, Thangboi contended that, "It is a sorry statement of the Kuki Civil Frontal organizations to make such a communalistic statement and added that it is solely on vested interest.
If there is any issue about the taxation, they should blame the KTU and not the NSCN (GPRN)" Thangboi pointed out adding that within the GPRN (NSCN) there is no KTU but in the NSCN/GPRN (NSCN-IM) there is KTU.
