Imphal, October 27 2014:
With the concerned authority failing to restore the pitiable half-km Zero Point-Common Ground at Noney in Tamenglong district, villagers of the areas with assistance from civil society organizations, local contractor and railway company have started repairing the road.
As stated by the villagers, the narrow road stretch is vulnerable to accidents and there have been instances where people lost their drives due to mishaps that took place along the road stretch.
They said that construction of the new road stretch which measures 24 feets in breadth started from October 20 and asserted that it would provide easy passage to two trucks coming in opposite direction.
BRTF posted at Noney had also provided valuable assistance meant for restoring the road, they added.
Stating that construction of half of the road stretch has been already completed, they urged the Public Works Department (PWD) to start black topping work and construct drains along the road at the earliest.
