Contact programme starts

Imphal, October 27 2014:
A five-day contact programme for talented students of the State, organised by Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC), kick started at Training Hall, Art and Culture building, Palace Compound from today.
Former Principal of DM College of Science G Tomba Sharma, Prof N Rajmuhon of Manipur University Chemistry Department and MASTEC Director Th Surendranath attended the inauguration function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Three students and one teacher guide each from 12 schools are taking part in the programme.
Popular Science talk, visit to laboratories of various institutions in Manipur, hands on project, Science elocution and face to face with distinguished invited Scientists will be the main highlights of the programme.
In his speech, G Tomba Sharma said that the number of Science experts is limited in the State though some Scientists have managed to reach the international level.
He said that talent sprouts through hardwork and students must pursue their goal with confidence.
Tomba further observed that students must not only take keen interest in research but also question 'why, how and what' of any subject.
Expressing hope that the programme will inspire the participating students, Tomba said that the society would move towards development only when youth and students contribute their mite.
Th Surendranath said that the programme was organised with an aim to give students exposure to Science and inspire them to choose the subject as their career.
