Two die after dog bites

Thoubal, August 14 2013:
Panic gripped Leishangthem village in Thoubal district after two persons died in separate incidents of dog bite.
The victims have been identified as Irom Haojao (21) s/o Shyamkesho of Leishangthem Khong Manung and Irom Anand (23) s/o late Maimu of the same locality.
According to family members, Haojao was bitten by a young dog on his right finger on July 19 last.
Haojao passed away even though he was undergoing treatment.
On the other hand, Anand was bitten on his right hand by a dog of his neighbour on March 17 .
Although, his condition remained normal for many months after having treatment, he was admitted at RIMS Hospital on August 8 after his right arm started developing paralysis.
Later, he started complaining of chest and neck pain.
Before his death on August 12, Anand showed symptoms of hallucination.
After these two incidents, villagers have become panic stricken, afraid to venture out of their houses.
Leishangthem Youth Sporting Association President L Noren urged the Government to take up immediate measure to curb spread of rabies in the village.
In association with Indian Red Cross Society, Thoubal Branch, Lions Club of Thoubal, Leishangthem Youth Sporting Club today organised a deliberation session at Leishangthem community hall on the spread and control of rabies.
Many veterinary experts, local elders and leaders spoke in the programme.
