Citing panic buying as the reason for scarcity of fuel in the State, All Manipur SK Oil Dealers Association has urged the general public not to buy or stock excess fuel.
Speaking at a press conference, association President T Gogo said, the daily need of petrol and diesel in the State are 90 KL and 130 KL respectively.
Although IOC is currently distributing 116 KL of petrol and 132 KL of diesel everyday, petrol pumps are remaining dry due to intense panic buying, he added.
Gogo said that apart from having enough stock of fuel oil at IOC Oil Depot, Chingmeirong, around 70 unloaded oil tankers are still there at Inter State Bus Terminus, Khuman Lampak.
In addition to this stock, around 200 oil tankers are likely to arrive Imphal from Dimapur on August 16 or 17, he said and adding that on the otherhand, around 150 tankers are now ready to leave Imphal to ship in fuel oil.
Saying that panic buying give hardships to poor people only, Gogo urged the general public not to buy excess fuel oil to curb rise of fuel price in the grey market.
Urging all concerned not to clamp bandh or general strike in pursuit of a demand of a group of people or community, Gogo observed that frequent bandhs give lots of hardship to poor people.
He also requested the Government to take up sincere and early action to revamp NH-37 .
