Imphal, July 25 2016:
Manipur this year has so far received its annual average volume of rainfall, said ICAR Imphal Agro-Advisory Services Principal Scientist I Meghachandra.
Meghachandra told The Sangai Express that the State has so far received 1175.3 mm of rainfall as against the average annual figure of 924.3 mm.
Like in the previous years, there would be very little or no rainfall during the months of November and December.
As such there is a need for water harvesting, he said.
Paddy cultivation cannot be started till date in many low lying areas on account of the excessive rainfall.
It would create a lot of difficulties if the farmers cannot cultivate paddy within the next couple of weeks.
Even though there has been incessant rainfall during the past few days, water levels of all major rivers have not yet reached the warning levels, according to information received from IFCD.
