AMAWOVA celebrates b'day

The All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) celebrated its 26th foundation day at Manipur Press Club today.
MU's School of Social Sciences former Dean Prof Ksh Bimola, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibee Apunba Mani-pur president L Memchoubi and AMAWOVA president K Kunjarani graced the function as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
In her speech, K Kunjarani said that Manipuri women have been taking active part in all the major issues besieging the State from time to time.
Manipuri society has been witnessing different forms of atrocities, suppression, conflicts, moral degradation and unwanted incidents, she said.
To fight all these challenges with supports from the masses, AMAWOVA was established on Oct 24, 1989, Kunjarani said.
The association had organised a seminar on the atrocities meted out to women at Hotel Imphal on March 8, 2013, she said.
After holding street corner meetings, poster campaigns, rallies and awareness programmes across the State, the association had also organised a workshop at Youth Hostel, Khuman Lampak on February 8, 2014 .
Saying that the State is still experiencing many challenges like conflict situation, domestic violence, drug abuse, moral degradation of youth, threat to territorial integrity and indigenous people etc, Kunjarani sought support from the general public especially womenfolk in fighting all these challenges.
