Imphal, August 11, 2012:
Contrary to claim that some officials/functionaries of Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) were assaulted by armed persons suspected to the KRA activists, KRA Information and Publicity secretary T Simte asserted that no one was assaulted by its cadres.
Speaking to newspersons at Saikul today, Simte contended that the SDSA functionaries in inebriated condition were seen engaged in a heated exchange of words with officials of the Composite Taxation Gate located at Henbung in Senapati district.
The SDSA delegates used derogatory remarks such as 'what can Kukis do' when some KRA cadres tried to intervene and resolve the row between the SDSA representatives and Taxation officials.
As all the SDSA officials involved in the Henbung incident were inebriated they do not deserve to hold responsible post of a student organisation and as such SDSA should ensure expulsion of all involved failing which punitive action would be initiated against the student organisation by the KRA, warned the secretary.
Elucidating on the incident, Simte said the SDSA office-bearers lashed out at the Taxation officials on seeing the gate closed while they were returning towards Senapati after dusk.
Even as the Taxation personnel were trying to open the gate the SDSA functionaries continued to use abusive language against the former consequently leading to a heated exchange of words between the two parties.
with the arrival of more SDSA members/supporters following telephone calls by the SDSA delegates already present at the Henbung check gate the student activists started to launch physical assault upon the Taxation personnel and officials, Simte said while contending that all the SDSA members/supporters who arrived later as reinforcements were also inebriated.
Maintaining that despite derogatory remarks against the KRA cadres, who tried to intervene, the KRA cadres acted in a restrained manner and left the scene, Simte vehemently rejected allegations by SDSA that its officials were assaulted at gun-point by the KRA men.
Reiterating the demand that SDSA office bearers and members involved in the incident should step down from their posts, he stated that student leaders/activists who consume alcohol or abuse substances do not deserve to be student leaders of hold such important posts of a sanctified organisation.
Failure to act in a positive manner or any further information about derogatory comments against any community would not be tolerated, Simte affirmed.
