Imphal, August 11, 2012:
Conceding mistakes in its news reports, monthly vernacular magazine, Athouba has pulled out its June-July issue off the stand in this connection.
In a press conference held at Keishampat today, Sub-Editor of the magazine, A Chandani admitted that it was a factual mistake to mention that Jangthailiu was gang raped in front of his husband in a news report.
She added that there was also another mistake in another report in the issue that Premila was murdered by a man after having sexual relationship for 7-8 years.
Taking part in the press conference, AMKIL general secretary L Gyaneshwari said that neither Jangthailiu was gang raped in front of her husband nor there was any proof that Premila had sexual relationship with her alleged muderer.
Cautioning the magazines and newspapers against publication of wrong reports, Gyaneshwari asserted that women organisations would not negotiate in any condition if such mistakes are repeated in future.
