Imphal, August 01 2014 :
The 26 Kms long Churachandpur-Sugnu road which provides a key link between Churachandpur, Thoubal and Chandel districts has finally succeeded in drawing the much deserved attention of the State Govern-ment.
Taking note of the road's deplorable condition and the key connectivity it provides, the State Government has been lobbying to obtain necessary fund for development of the road from Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) .
The road was literally abandoned after it was black topped for the last time in 1983.Yet, 5 Kms long section of the road on Chura- chandpur side was black topped recently with money drawn from the Central Road Fund.
The Government has been working hard to repair and black top the remaining 21 Kms long section with money from NLCPR in 2015-16 .
With the exception of the 5 Kms long section which was black topped recently, the remaining section of 21 Kms has worn out completely and its condition has been further aggravated by the onset of rainy season.

With a view to keep the road serviceable at least during this rainy season, Sangai- kot TD Block Chiefs Association, Sangaikot TD Block KSO and KNO today repaired the road with the help of 35 truck loads of sand donated by the Serou Leingoi Truck Association.
MGNREGS job card holders residing along side the road also volunteered and took part in the road repairing work.
Singhat A/C MLA GS Haopu too came to the spot and inspected the road repairing drive.
The MLA was impressed by the voluntary work done in unison by different organisations.
The Chief Minister has already assured that the road would be repaired with money drawn from NLCPR, the MLA conveyed to the voluntary workers.
Sangaikot TD Block Chiefs Association chairman Pungtulthang Zou lamented that there were cases when patients in need of emergency medical attention died on the way before reaching Churachandpur because of the road's highly deplorable condition.
He said that they were elated when MLA GS Haopu and MDC Tongkai personally visited and inspected the voluntary work.
