4 women vegetable sellers robbed by strike supporters

Imphal, March 28 2015 :
Four women vegetable sellers were reportedly robbed of their goods worth around Rs 10,000 on their way by strike supporters in Paobitek area along Mayai Lambi under Imphal West on Saturday.
The incident happened around 10 am during the 24-hour State wide general strike call given by All Manipur VDF Welfare Association (AMVDFWA), reports said.
The four women vegetable sellers were returning together in an auto from Wabagai in the district when a group of bandh supporters robbed them in Paobitek area.
They have been identified as L Yambi (65), Kh Premila (42), Y Lata (45) and Y Memma (50), all from Yumnam Huidrom.
Meanwhile, the 24-hour Manipur wide bandh imposed by AMVDFWA crippled normal life.
During the strike at least 20 vehicles were damaged by bandh supporters in different areas.
The strike began from last midnight.
They blocked roads in various parts of the State.
However, the strike was defied in most parts of Imphal City.
Mayai Lambi witnessed greater impact of the strike with a large number of strike supporters obstructed the road since early morning.
Police fired tear gas shells to disperse strike supporters in many areas.
However, no major untoward incidents were reported during the course of the bandh.
Singjamei Okram Leikai, Wangoi, Paobitek, Mayang Imphal, Moirang Keithel, Ningthoukhong Keithel, Bishnupur Keithel and Oinam Keithel areas witnessed complete bandh.
Groups of strike supporters also blocked roads in Sawongbung, Sapermeina and Yairipok areas.
The strike had been enforced by AMVDFWA demanding the State Government to implement its demands.
