Inter-sectoral meeting held

Manipur State Health Society organised a one-day intersectoral meeting on prevention and control of vector-borne diseases at Youth Hostel, Khuman Lampak yesterday.
Directorate of Health Services Additional Director Dr S Manikanta, ROH & FW Regional Director Dr L Ashananda and National Vector-Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) State Nodal Officer Dr T Zamkhokam Kuki attended the meeting as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr S Manikanta said that communicable and vector-borne diseases are still serious matters in the country.
24 per cent of the world population is affected by communicable diseases, Dr Manikanta said and added that prevalence of vector-borne diseases in the neighbouring States is also high.
Stating that vectors are organisms that transmit pathogens and parasites from one infected person or animal to another, causing serious diseases, Dr Manikanta said that half of the world population are still vulnerable to different types of vector-borne diseases.
