Along with engagement of over 300 labourers construction work of the Inter State Bus Terminus, Chingmeirong is on a war footing as a tentative target has been set for completing the complex in april, next year.
Taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 25.5 crores after the foundation stone was laid in December 2009, the construction work is being entrusted to the State PWD and Sri Avantika Contractors Limited under the State Transport Department.
In between 2009 and 2010 construction of most of the enclosures such as 30 office rooms, ticket counters, emporium, waiting hall, central control room, tourism office and liaison office have been completed, said officials of the private construction agency.
with a capacity to park 500 buses at a time, main attraction of the complex will be the overhead bridge that will connect pedestrians to all corners of the Terminus.
It is also informed that as operation of transport service to distant locations such as Guwahati, Moreh and Mandalay will be from the said Terminus top class vehicles would be made available.
To cater to medical attention of the travellers a medical room with round the clock medical personnel and an ATM booth, as well as fuel retail outlet would also be available within the complex.
Further confiding that till date Rs 10 crore out of the total estimated cost has been exhausted, the agency officials also asserted that even though target has been set to inaugurate the Terminus in april next efforts are on to ensure its completion within December this year.
They also cited frequent disruption in transportation of construction materials for the slight delay in handing over the Terminus in its complete form.
