Centre approves Ayush Hospital in state

Central government has approved to construct and established an Integrated Ayush Hospital with 50 beds in the state which will give benefits of medical treatment of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Sidha and Homeopathy to the people of the state.
According to a reliable source from the state Medical Directorate, the Integrated Ayush Hospital whose project cost is Rs 11.20 crore is all set to begin construction work as soon as centre releases funds.
An area of 10.5 acre has been acquired by the directorate at the northern side of ICAR complex at Lamphelpat for the construction of the hospital.
The hospital is a pilot project of the 11th Plan period which will give quality reliable treatment to the people of the state.
The hospital will also act as a Referral Centre Nucleus.
The hospital will have Medical Superintendent, Panchakarma, Ksharsutra, Homeopathy specialists, SMO, Medical Officers, Nursing staff, X-Ray technicians, Yoga Instructures, Pharmacists, Laboratory technicians and other staffs which is available in other hospitals.
Moreover the hospital will have Anesthetist s, Radiologists, Pathologists, Opthalmologists, Dental Surgeons, General Surgeons and Gynaecologists.
It may be mentioned that Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Ayush had approved to construct the hospital in the state in June, 2009.State cabinet had also resolved to establish an Ayush Directorate in the state and creation of 48 posts under the 13th Finance Commission.
However, lack of proper initiatives from the state government has become a major drawback in the inability to begin the construction work, stated an official of the directorate.
The state has 12 Homeopathy MOs, one Yoga and Nature Cure MO, 19 Ayush Pharmacists, two Yoga Instructors, two Treatment Assistances (Yoga), 26 staff nurses.
Moreover, 69 Homeopathy doctors, 13 Ayurveda doctors, nine Yoga and Nature Cure doctors and five Unani doctors are engaged in the state under the National Rural Health Mission in the villages of the state.
A Homeopathy hospital of 10 beds was already established in JN Hospital.
Moreover the state has Ayush OPDs in 16 CHCs and 80 PHCs.
Ayush hospitals of 10 beds each have been constructed inThoubal, Churachandpur, Chandel, Imphal East and Bishnupur districts.
Construction works of Ayush Hospitals are being taken up in other states also.
Around 2,63,792 people of the state have availed the facility of Ayush treatment in 2010-11 .
Stating the need of developing Ayush treatment in the state which has not side effects, the undisclosed official draw attention of the state government in setting up a separate Ayush Directorate in the state and speed up the process of the construction of the Integrated Ayush Hospital.
