Two traffic cops among 8 hurt in blast

Imphal, February 27 2011:
At least eight persons including two traffic policemen were wounded today when suspected UGs set-off a hand grenade outside a shop dealing in steel bars at Hatta Golapati.
Eyewitnesses and police suspect the bomb was hurled by some persons coming in a Maruti van.
After the explosion at 12.45 pm, the van was seen leaving the place moving towards the north.
Police are still at a dark in pointing out the UG group behind the blast and no UG outfit or their factions have so far owned up the act.
Police said that the blast was aimed at the shop owned by Md Oli Mohamad (55) from Bihar presently residing at Thangal bazar.
The owner was among the injured.
He sustained splinter injuries in his right leg and thigh.
He and another wounded person, Md Samsur (45) son of Md Amiruddin of Thangal bazar, were rushed to the RIMS hospital.
Samsur who was with the shop owner at the time of the explosion sustained splinter injuries at his chest and left knee.
The seriously injured salesman of the shop, Md Khamba (32) of Boroyangbi was admitted at the JNIMS hospital along with five others including the two traffic cops.
Khamba, with multiple splinter injuries, is in a critical condition, a hospital source said.
The two injured traffic police personnel are Inspector N Angouton (52) Singh of Nambol Phoijing Awang Leikai, OC of Imphal east traffic police and constable Leihaothabam Iboyaima (38) of Khurai Chingangbam Leikai.
They were there in a Gypsy vehicle on duty.
Others injured are Md Thoiba (29) of Assam's Lalpani village, a rickshaw puller and Md Asharaf Ali (28) of UP who happened to be nearby the shop at the time of the blast.
They are residing in Hatta Golapati.
The five persons admitted at JNIMS hospital sustained splinter injuries in the legs, hands and other part of their bodies.
Their conditions are not serious.
Imphal East SP, Th Radheshyam and his officers rushed to the spot minutes after the blast and took stock of the situation.
Police have registered a case.
A failed hand grenade attack was made at the house of a Pradhan at Waiton GP, Konjengbam Leima Devi last night around 7.30 pm.
A team of Heingang PS defused and seized the same around 9 pm.
