Imphal, February 27 2011:
A social organisation from Tamenglong district has urged a resigned Naga MLA to participate in the forthcoming Manipur Assembly budget session.
Citizens' Forum of Tamei Assembly Constituency has said that N Awangbow, the MLA of the Constituency, should partake in the forthcoming budget session of the State in the interest of the public which is scheduled to begin from March 8 next.
Significantly, MLA Awangbow and several other Naga MLAs had tendered their resignation as MLAs following the Mao Gate fiasco of May 6, 2010 in the aftermath of NSCN-IM General Secretary Thuingaleng Muivah's attempt to visit his ancestral home Somdal in Ukhrul district of Manipur.
"Citizens' Forum of Tamei A/C would like to appeal to the MLA of Tamei Assembly Constituency to participate in the ensuing Manipur State Assembly budget session in the interest of the public," it said.
The citizens' forum has expressed its concern for the welfare of the people of Tamei sub-division in particular and Manipur State in general saying, "Tamei sub-division is known for its backwardness in the State of Manipur", which needs to be highlighted in the Assembly.
Appreciating Awangbow for tendering his resignation as MLA for the cause of the Nagas, and also, since the same is still pending in the office of the Speaker of the Assembly, the Citizens' Forum has appealed for his participation in the ensuing Manipur State Assembly budget session which is set to begin on March 8, 2011 in the interest of the public.
"He has done his part as a public leader.
Acceptance of his resignation is the sole prerogative of the Speaker of the House," said the forum's president, K Gonmei, and Secretary, Adin Abonmai, hinting that since he is still an MLA in effect, it is only fitting that he partakes in the coming budget session of the State Assembly.
