Imphal, February 27 2011:
A social organisation from Tamenglong district has urged a resigned Naga MLA to participate in the forthcoming Manipur assembly budget session.
Citizens' Forum of Tamei Assembly Constituency has said that N Awangbow, MLA of the constituency, should, in the interest of the public, partake in the forthcoming budget session of the state which is scheduled to begin from March 8 .
Significantly, MLA Awangbow and several other Naga MLAs had tendered their resignation as MLAs following the Mao Gate incident of May 6, 2010 .
The Citizens' Forum has expressed its concern for the welfare of the people of Tamei sub-division in particular and Manipur in general saying, "Tamei sub-division is known for its backwardness in the state".
This needs to be highlighted in the Assembly.
Appreciating Awangbow for tendering his resignation as MLA for the cause of the Nagas, and, since the resignation issue is still pending in the office of the Speaker of the Assembly, the Citizens' Forum has appealed for his participation in the ensuing Manipur state assembly budget session.
"He has done his part as a public leader.
Acceptance of his resignation is the sole prerogative of the Speaker of the House," said the forum's president, K Gonmei, and secretary, Adin Abonmai, hinting that since he is still an MLA in effect.
Meanwhile, the Citizens' Forum of Tamei has demanded for the immediate cancellation of the recently issued order with regard to IAY selection.
"As the selection was not done according to the rules and priority drawn by the BDOs, the needs of the BPL families have been totally ignored," it said, demanding "immediate cancellation of the order and fresh selection" to be initiated in the interest of BPL families of the district.
It has termed the November 2010 order as "done without the knowledge of the concerned BDOs by the deputy commissioner of Tamenglong district to please a single individual to fulfill his own interest" .
