Imphal, May 23:
Refuting the news report which appeared on the May 23 issue of this paper under the caption, Nambol women protest SF excesses, the family members of the purported victim, O Kunjabihari, including the mother Subadani, local guardian O Ibotombi, chairperson of Nambol Municipal Council, N Sanahanbi have today clarified that Kunjabihari was not assaulted by the security personnel as reported.
In a statement, the relatives of Kunjabihari and the Nambol Municipal Council chairperson said that far from assaulting the victim, the SF took the individual to the hospital for his treatment on humanitarian grounds.
Kunjabihari sustained the injuries due to his own fault said the statement.
The Maratha Light Infantry has also clarified that far from assaulting the man, as reported and alleged, the humanitarian approach of SF saved a mentally retarded person.
In a statement, MLI said that the man, O Kunjabihari of Nambol Kunjiri Mamang fled when saw a patrol party of the Army.
While running away the man fell down and hurt himself.
The security personnel on reaching him found that he was badly hurt and bleeding and added that he also appeared drunk and on conducting body search one empty strip of unknown tablet was found on him.
The statement went on the explain that in view of the recent killing of drug addicts by the KYKL, Kunjabihari was handed over the police to be handed over to his family members on humanitarian grounds.
Unfortunately it has been used as an allegation against the Army, continued the statement.
Such allegations will lower the morale of the security force, who acted purely on humanitarian grounds.
